WHY WE CELEBRATE HINDI DIWASON SEPTEMBER 14?

It is because on this day in 1949, Constituent Assembly of India had adopted Hindi written in Devanagari script as official language of Republic of India. 14 September 1949 also marks 50th birthday of Beohar Rajendra Simha who was among stalwarts who rallied and lobbied pan-India in favor of Hindi. Their efforts came to fruition following adoption of Hindi as official language and this decision was ratified by Constitution of India that came into effect on 26 January 1950.

HINDI DIWAS Celebrations:

Many programs are organized across the country on the occasion of Hindi Day. Debate competitions, poetry recitations, Essay copies, plays, and exhibitions are organized in schools, colleges, and educational institutions.

Hindi fortnightly is organized in government offices i.e. from September 14 to next 15 days, various competitions are held in government office. Also, government offices that do good work for development of Hindi throughout the year are also honored with prizes.

Every year on occasion of Hindi Diwas, President of India presents Rajbhasha awards to people for their contribution towards the Hindi language, at a ceremony in Delhi.

Two years after gaining independence in 1947, the newly established government was struggling to unite the various linguistic, ethnic, and religious groups that made up the country. It was necessary to unite the nation while still providing it a distinct national identity. Hindi offered itself as the answer to national cohesion in a nation where there was no single language providing it a distinctive national character.

HINDI DIWAS-Beohar Rajendra Simha

Beohar Rajendra Simha, Hazari Prasad Dwivedi, Kaka Kalelkar, Maithili Sharan Gupt, and Seth Govind Das are a few of the individuals that organized protests and lobbied for the cause throughout all of India.

Beohar Rajendra Singh / Singha (Beohar Rajendra Simha) was born on September 14, 1900 in Jabalpur. After independence, Vyawar Rajendra Singh along with Kaka Kalelkar, Maithili Sharan Gupt, Hazari Prasad Dwivedi, Seth Govind Das made a lot of efforts to establish Hindi as the national language. Due to this he also made many trips to South India. Vyawar Rajendra Singh was the president of Hindi Sahitya Sammelan.

He represented India in the World All Religion Conference held in America, where you gave a speech in Hindi in the All Religion Conference, which was highly appreciated. You had good command over Sanskrit, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Urdu, English etc.

He died on March 2, 1988.

History and background of Hindi Diwas

Hindi Day is celebrated every year on 14 September. On September 14, 1949, the Constituent Assembly unanimously decided that Hindi would be the official language of India. Hindi Day is celebrated every year on 14 September in India since 1953 to emphasize the importance of this decision and to spread Hindi in every field. Hindi did not get this status so easily. There was a long battle for this, in which businessman Rajendra Singh played an important role. Finally, on the 50th birthday of Vyauhar Rajendra Singh

That is, on September 14, 1949, Hindi got the status of the official language of India.

HINDI DIWAS Preserving Linguistic Diversity

In an era marked by globalization and the prominence of English as a global language, Hindi Diwas serves as a reminder of the need to preserve and promote India’s indigenous languages. While Hindi takes the center stage on this day, it also underscores the broader importance of safeguarding India’s linguistic diversity.

HINDI DIWAS SPEECH

We wish you all a very Happy Hindi Diwas on behalf of the honorable principal, the esteemed teaching and support personnel, and my close friends.

The Constituent Assembly resolved on this date in 1949 that Hindi would be the official language of the Central Government. Since 1953, Indians have marked Hindi Diwas on September 14th to highlight the significance of Hindi and to promote it throughout the country.

We are well aware that India is a country where people of many religions and tongues coexist, but what is most endearing about India is the fact that we still treat one another as family.

Today’s nationwide celebration of Hindi Day has no intention of forcing this language on those who do not speak it.
